On the LPLS database searches, I went to a couple of databases that I thought was interesting. Two of those were the "My Library DV"-video on demand where you watch DVD videos. The other one was "Find Articles" database with resources with journals, articles, etc.
I enjoyed the "My Library DV" video where I could travel to different places and see different parts of the country. One of the places I traveled to on-line was the New England states which I thought was pretty. I would love to visit some of the New England states and go to the different areas which is one of the reasons I picked the travel video. The video showed where Alva Smith Vanderbilt lived in Newport, Rhode Island. It's a beautiful mansion that was her summer home. For a bit of trivia, do you know why the the bridges are covered bridges? The bridges were covered because they were made of wood and the cover protects the bridge in the winter months. I traveled to Boston, Maine, Cape Cod and other New England states. At Cape Cod, there was a lighthouse to visit. On another trip on-line, I decided to visit Hawaii. I thought Maui was the most beautiful island that the video showed. I would love to go to Maui sometime!! I discovered where Charles Lindberg had once lived there in Hawaii. I have another bit of trivia.. Did you know that the humpback whale weighs over 40 tons!! I recommend anyone taking the time to watch some of the My LibraryDV videos. There is a variety of videos on the database to enjoy.
The other database I searched was "Find Articles" with journals, magazines, etc. I decided to look up the nutrition section. I chose this article because nutrition information is always useful for anyone. We all need to think about what we eat. What we eat can affect our health in the long run. Well, I'm sure everyone has heard of the old adage that "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." There is actually some truth in that according to the article that I read. According to my source, eating a couple apples a day may lower someone's chance of developing heart disease and reports a health benefit of fiber consumption. It is recommended to eat an abundance of fiber-rich foods to prevent coronary heart disease according to the health source that I read. Fiber has been shown to reduce heart disease in many ways, such as lowering blood pressure. Diet is associated with the five leading cause of death for people 65 years or older. According to my source, studies have shown that eating a healthy diet and being active is influenced more than family genetics.
There were a lot more information that I read but I wanted to just give you a few things that was on the article. I do recommend the database for anyone. It seems to have a source of different types of information out there for anyone.
